Screen Printing is the best way to place any type of printing onto clothing. It is BEST used for large designs especially for T-shirts & sweatshirts.

How does it work:
A screen is made of a piece of porous, finely woven fabric stretched over a aluminum frame. Areas of the screen are blocked off with a non-permeable material a “stencil” which is a negative of the image to be printed; that is, the open spaces are where the ink will appear.
The screen is placed on top of a piece of dry paper or fabric. Ink is placed on top of the screen, and a rubber blade is used to spread the ink evenly across the screen. The ink passes through the open spaces in the screen onto the paper or fabric below; then the screen is lifted away. The screen can be re-used after cleaning. If more than one color is being printed on the same surface, the ink is allowed to dry and then the process is repeated with another screen and different color of ink. |
Screen printed garments wash well, and should not be confused with heat transfer printing which does not look as good or last so well. Many t-shirt printing shops use this cheaper method rather than screen-printing.
Upside - affordable, excellent for larger designs Downside - not as economical for small orders that require more than one color designs
For large orders the cost for your artwork, number of screens and setup is incorporated into the entire order proposal. If you wanted to place another order in the future with the same design there would be no setup charge.
Several screens may be required depending on the complexity of the design. One screen is necessary for each different design, as is different screens are required for each color printed, and each different location of printing. |
